Now, this post is more for the health freaks who want more out of their honey and are on the lookout for something with more antioxidants. I learnt about this syrup at a press conference held in the city about Maple syrup and the benefits of the same. The health freak in me decided to jump in and attend. It was hosted by the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers, Canada. What I learnt were some pretty cool things about Maple syrup.
Nutritionist and wellness consultant Anju Sood who was there at the event spoke extensively about various health benefits of 100% pure maple syrup and its versatility, while Chef Palaniappan depicted how easy it is to incorporate pure maple syrup in both sweet and savoury dishes by demonstrating some easy-to-make-at-home maple recipes.
Nutrition and Wellness consultant Anju Sood stressed that 100% pure maple syrup from Canada is already known to us as a natural sweetener and is an excellent source of manganese and riboflavin (B2), a good source of magnesium and multiple other nutrients like calcium, potassium, sodium, copper and zinc, makes it a healthier alternative to sugar. Also, it contains 65 antioxidants meaning it stands way ahead of the curve when it comes to your honey or brown sugar. It tastes better than honey.
Pure maple syrup contains a significant amount of phytohormones of the abscisic acid (ABA) family, a molecule that may help against the onset of insulin resistance which is great news for diabetics, those looking to knock off some weight as well as athletes. Simple modifications in the daily diet and regular exercise may help one in leading a healthier and a fitter life.
Maple syrup provides more vitamins and minerals than all other usual sweeteners, and its calorie and sugar content is one of the lowest. A 60 ml (2 oz) serving satisfies more than 100% of our daily requirements for manganese, 37% for riboflavin, 18% for zinc, 7% for magnesium and 5% for both calcium and potassium.
