That soup for your cold

Now, this was an experiment to ease my sore throat and cold. BUT, It worked.

I am more of a soup person hence I have been trying to work my ways through it to build my immunity against cold and Flu.

This soup has zucchini, broccoli, fresh basil leaves and loads of garlic and pepper which all work against Cold.


1 brown onion, diced
3-4 garlic cloves, sliced
1 cup broccoli, cut into florets
1 cup zucchini, sliced into rounds
1 cup basil leaves, roughly torn
1/2 cup soaked dal(split pulse)
Salt and pepper
1 tbsp lemon juice

In a pan, heat the butter over a medium heat and add the onions, peppercorns, and garlic together(saves time. You are sick remember! Fancy can wait) cook it for around 5 minutes until it is translucent and soft.

Throw in the broccoli and zucchini into a pressure cooker and stir everything together for 1 minute so the vegetables gently begin to cook. Add the soaked split pulses. You can always add a little Sri Lankan cinnamon and bring the whole thing to a boil by adding some 3 cups of water. Add the roughly chopped basil leaves. Put on the pressure lid and cook until two whistles.

Leave to simmer for five minutes. Turn off the stove and leave it to gently cool in the pot for 5 minutes. Once it has cooled slightly, you can puree the soup in your blender. You can serve with a slight squeeze of the lemon or not.

This can be had twice a day for two days. I felt healthy the throat was also relieved.  🙂
